BR Solutions, a local information and communication technology firm, has launched a product dubbed "Huduma Fasta" that will enable Tanzanians to access business information through their cell phones.
The technology which is currently available in Dar es Salaam is already connected to three mobile phone operators -- Vodacom, Airtel and Tigo and plans are underway to expand it to other regions.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony held recently, BR Solutions' Chief Executive Officer, Mr Richard Njau said the technology allows users to get information on housing units that are for lease, taxis and prices of commodities at markets in Dar es Salaam.
"Due to increased life responsibilities, it has become difficult for some Tanzanians to get reliable information on their needs at time and that is why we decided to come up with this service," Mr Njau said.
Subscribers of Vodacom, Airtel and Tigo wishing to use the service will have to send a text message on a type of service they need and where they need it.
"For instance, if you need a taxi in downtown Dar es Salaam, you will have to send "Usafiri Taxi Posta Mpya" to 15450 after which a name of a taxi driver, his or her cell phone number as well as the vehicle registration number and where it parks will be availed to the sender," the entrepreneur elaborated.
He said other services are available through the technology as houses that are for lease in various parts of the city, prices of commodities at supermarkets and other outlets.
At present, registration for the "Huduma Fasta" service is free of charge, according to Mr Njau.
"With the product, one should be rest assured of getting timely and reliable business information," he said.
BR Solutions' Board Chairman, Mr Arnold Kilewo, urged Tanzanians and other stakeholders in the sector to support the product which has been designed locally.
"There is a need for joint efforts among stakeholders in the ICT industry to ensure that globalization benefits all Tanzanians," remarked the veteran business executive.
Mr Kilewo was optimistic that the new service will usher in a new era in business information once it is expanded to all regions in the country.
